At the end of the school year, the faculty took retiring teacher Marge
Holben and Colleen Cather, who resigned to pursue an advanced degree, to lunch to celebrate their new
lives. It was gratifying to see the smiles on Mrs. Holben's face as she shared the visions of what she was going
to do in retirement.
As we mentioned in previous letters, Mrs. Holben fell several weeks ago,
and was unable to complete the school year. Although this is not the way she wanted
to end her 43-year career in teaching, she was happy the fall did not incapacitate her any more than it did. Walking
is somewhat labored, but, with a generous spirit of enthusiasm, she is continuing as if nothing had happened.
The
teachers relished in the plans Ms. Cather shared as she talked about her new endeavors. As the teachers dropped by one-by-one,
they thanked her for all the improvements she made during her two-year tenure at Sts. Peter and Paul School. They all
praised her well-organized style and comprehensive understanding of curriculum and gave her their blessings for continued
success.
In the meantime, we were aware that the new principal, Mrs. Kathy Yaussy, was recovering from an
automible accident in which her knee was shattered. Mrs. Yaussy underwent surgery last week and is recovering at home.
The President and she will confer on a regular basis during her recovery so, when she is able to return to full service within
a few weeks, she will be completely oriented toward all the changes we have made and will have the opportunity to greet parents
and students alike. We are hopeful we can do this in early July. Notice of the reception we will have for her
will be in the Parish Bulletin.
Ms. Cather is presently completing the school year-end paper work and will
have everything ready for the new Principal. Not surprisingly, she is crossing every "T" and dotting every
"I" to be sure there are no tasks left undone. We are grateful to her for this.
Please pray for
the Mrs. Holben, Ms. Cather and Mrs. Yaussy.
