Selecting a New Principal

This week we will be interviewing candidates for the new Principal.  We had ten applicants who presented themselves with credentials that met our qualifications, and were pleased that some were outstanding.  We also received over a dozen calls making inquiry and think some might be included in the applications we received.

Of the ten who applied, some did not have the type of background that would serve our needs, e.g., they had experience only in high schools although they had elementary administration certification; they had no religious affiliations with the Faith; they had degrees in something other than education but substituted in grades K-12 at one time or another.

After a comprehensive review, we selected only three to be interviewed and will do so within the next few days.  We hope to have a selection by the end of the week so we can introduce him/her to the teachers before they leave on Friday.

We asked for names of parents who would volunteer to serve on the committee and received thirteen.  Last week, we drew two names from the "hat" from the parent list and two from the teacher list.  Mr. Shaun Braman and Mrs. Cheryl LeFebvre were chosen as parents and Mrs. Judy Thomas and Mrs. Judy Pfiester as teachers.  The Committee will consist of:  Fr. Rob Stein, the President, the Superintendent of the Southern Region of the Diocese and the teachers and parents cited above.  If a second round of interviews is suggested, we will select two different parents and two different teachers.

After the new Principal is selected, he/she will work with Ms. Cather to become oriented with procedures presently in place and learn about the upcoming accreditation review we will undergo this Fall.  Ms. Cather has been actively involved with this process and has volumes of information necessary for the successful completion of the accreditation visit.  This process has been a monumental undertaking, and Ms. Cather is to be commended that she and her committee of teachers have risen to the challenge in the manner they did.

Close to the middle of June, the new Principal will be introduced to the Parish at all Masses.  Throughout the Summer, he/she will make every effort to contact parents either through parent meetings or in person.  We recognize that vacations alter parents' schedules and, therefore, it is difficult to reach everyone at the same time, but he/she will make every attempt to do so.

Meanwhile, the President and the new Principal will meet to outline and explain plans that have been put in place [or will be in place] since January.

Please continue your prayers for the success of our school, but especially for the new Principal.  We are delighted in having received more students this past week and hope the trend continues.

As always, please feel free to express your concerns to the President.  This is the only way we can incorporate your thinking into our plans.  In the absence of comments, we assume what we are doing is what is best for the school.  Certainly, we cannot incorporate every plan that comes to us, but we need to know your feelings so we can put them into the process we use to make decisions.

God bless.
