New Teachers and Principal Search
After interviewing several candidates for the fourth-grade position, we selected Ms. Lee Cikra, who has
been the permanent substitute for Mrs. Holben since her accident about two months ago.
Although four were
equally qualified, Ms. Cikra was a known quantity; we knew the other ones only through their interviews and written credentials.
Ms. Cikra has worked well with the staff and has put in countless hours in preparation so the students would not
feel the absence of their regular teacher. Of course, there is always a change in personalities and procedures when there
is a different teacher; hence, the need for focused preparation.
Mrs. Holben is retiring at the end of the
year but will not be here to permit us to give her the glorious send-off she deserves. The teachers, however, plan to
have a luncheon in her honor at the end of the year [now only three weeks away] to show her how much we will miss her and
to let her share stories of her more than forty years in education. We regret she could not bring her career to a close
doing what she loved to do -- teaching her students -- but the accident was such that she cannot maneuver with any degree
of ease.
Also joining us for next year is Mrs. Joanne Pasho, who will be teaching Science for grades six, seven
and eight, and Algebra to qualified students, in addition to other subjects. Mrs. Pasho started the year at Sts. Peter
and Paul this school year and captivated the hearts of the students and faculty with her enthusiasm, knowledge and willingness
to donate her time and talents. We are fortunate she is able to join us on a full-time basis.
The search
for the new Principal is progressing with dispatch. We have posted the position on the Diocesan website and called for
applications to be received by May 23rd. During the week of May 26th, we will begin the interviews, and, in about two
weeks from then, decide upon a new Principal.
Please keep us in your prayers while we make these most important
decisions.
