SUMMER

Happily, warm weather is beginning to comfort us, but that doesn't relieve us of formulating more plans for the Summer months.

In an effort to maximize our resources and to give our students an opportunity to fulfill their academic desires to the fullest, we will have a Summer Reading Program in which students may subscribe [without cost] to expand their literary horizons.

A retired Language Arts specialist and a good friend of the President's, Mrs. Christine Alexander, has collaborated with Mrs. Thomas on a volunteer basis to develop the program for students who want to invest their time in something other than recreation during the Summer months.  Details will be announced closer to the end of school, but suffice it to say, the program will afford students yet another opportunity to accelerate their reading prowess through professionally guided instruction.

In a previous issue of the President's Page, we talked about the Great Books for Students program we plan to institute.  Mrs. Alexander will be involved with this as well.  We are grateful for her spirit of giving, her gift of teaching and her love for children.

Our seasoned faculty will choose books for the GBS program that are appropriate for our students at their level of interest and difficulty.  The only expense would be in securing books not available in the public or school libraries.  Since we are having a Book Fair this week, we would be happy to recommend selections to parents and patrons who typically purchase books as their gift to the school library.

We are doubly blessed in that Mrs. McWilliams, the Speech Therapist, has had a distinguished career in the Great Books program and has offered her counsel as we move forward with our plans.

Also this Summer, we need a something novel to keep Sts. Peter and Paul School in front of the public.  With Rogues Hollow Days being a big event in Doylestown, it would be good to have a unit in the parade.   One suggestion we would make would be a German Um-pah-pah band that would play German um-pah-pah music.  This would capitalize on our historic beginnings, i.e., German immigrants who were among the founders of the Church, and would provide some uplifting music for the crowd.  Now, all we need are some players.  If you play a wind, brass or percussion instrument and would be willing to spend a little time in practice, getting dressed up in lieder hozen and a German hat, we would be the hit of the parade.  Please let the office know if you would be interested at 330-658-2084.

Our thrust continues.  Our hopes are high.  Our blessings are many.  Please join in praising God for his goodness in permitting Sts. Peter and Paul School to survive and prosper.
