August 2008
Dear Parents,
Welcome to the Second Grade. I would like to take this opportunity to tell you
about myself. This is my tenth year of teaching Second grade. Along with my degree in Elementary Education, I obtained a Bachelor
of Science Degree in Dietetics from the University of Akron. For fifteen years, I have been teaching PSR classes at Sts. Peter
and Paul. I have been married for eleven years and we have two sons and three daughters.
Throughout the year, we will
engage in many activities that will help your child grow in knowledge and faith. Included are the Sacraments of Reconciliation
which will be celebrated on Saturday, March 7, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. and Holy Communion which will be celebrated on Saturday,
May 16, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. Also, please keep the following dates open.
*Sunday, November 23, 2008 is the First Penance
Program for parents.
*Sunday, February 8, 2009 is the First Communion Program for parents.
Both of these programs
will be from 9:30a.m.-10:45a.m. in the school cafeteria. The Diocese made these programs mandatory, if you have not attended
a meeting in the past. In order for your child to receive these sacraments, at least one parent must attend.
We will
have a short break at 10:00 every day and I encourage students to bring a healthy snack. We will eat lunch at 12:30. A carton
of milk is $.35, please send the money in an envelope marked “milk money”. We have Computer class on Thursday.
Our class is scheduled to go to Gym on Tuesday and Wednesday from 1:40-2:20, so students will wear their gym clothes home.
Students will visit the library on Wednesday and have Spanish on Monday and Thursday. We will attend Mass on Friday at 9:15.
In
regards to homework, students will bring home Math work Monday through Thursday. Students will also have Spelling Activities
and Language Arts homework for the week. Students are responsible for turning in Math work every morning, and on Friday I
will collect the Spelling and Language Arts folders. Each student will be given specific folders for these assignments to
help keep them organized.
This year the First, Second, and Third graders will be taught by three teachers. Mrs. Bryant
will be instructing Language Arts, Mrs. Sullivan will be teaching Phonics, and I will do the Spelling and Handwriting lessons.
This change will be implemented the second week of school.
If you have any questions, please contact me by calling
the school. I am very enthusiastic about working together to help your child have a successful and wonderful Second Grade.
God Bless You,
Mrs. Mary Henegar
